About the Owner, Kelly
I started my love of animals at a very young age and grew up wanting to peruse a career in veterinary medicine. I volunteered at the Humane Socieity of Missouri, Missouri Wildlife Rescue and did an internship at the St. Louis Zoo, working at all the different animal houses and gaining knowledge in the care of primates, birds, reptiles, large mammals, and insects. While I studied animal behavior in college, I got side tracked by Archaeology and made that my career choice instead, obtaining a degree in Anthropology.
While working in the field I never lost my love of animals, and would often spend my paycheck taking care of the local feral colonies by TNRing them and making sure they were vaccinated before releasing. If I found kittens, I would fight to make sure they would have a loving home instead of growing up in an alley and probably coming to an untimely demise.
When the recession hit, finding an archaeology job became difficult and I started to work for some local rescue groups in Maryland and eventually started to work as a dog walker for Belly Rubs Pet Care in Arlington, VA. I loved walking the dogs and taking care of the cats of our clients, and found myself looking forward to going to work every day. I wanted to make sure I treated my clients pets just as I would my own, as nothing causes me more worry then leaving my babies behind while I went to work or on a business trip.
My husband and I moved to Lusby, MD last year so I had to quit working for Belly Rubs as the drive was simply too far. That is when the idea of Paws on the Bay occurred to us, to open our own small business and to provide quality pet care to our clients in Southern Maryland.
I have a strong commitment and love of animals and place their well being over my own. I have received my pet first aid and CPR certification via American Safety and Healthy Institutes Pet First Aid Program.
I look forward to working with you and providing you with your pet care needs.
